Tips & Trivia
IDE Cables - We've found many motherboard manufactures and individual IDE cables do not meet specifications (maximum length of 18 inches). Using these cables can result is very bizarre and hard to diagnose reliability problems. We once spent over a month going back and forth with IBM technicians where they could not explain the mysterious problems but stated in they also occasionally had such problems with their PCs. We custom built a shorter cable and the system became instantly reliable.
ATA66 Cables - supposedly the black connector should be connected to your master device and the grey connector should be connected to the slave device. (pre ATA66 IDE devices could use either connector).
